Audio Examples
The recording Cantando en la Ciudad de los Ángeles: Christmas Villancicos by Gaspar Fernández in Viceregal Mexico (Outhere, 2026), featuring La Boz Galana and Concerto Scirocco under the artistic direction of Sebastián León, was created as a musical companion to Ireri E. Chávez Bárcenas’ book Sounding Race, Identity, and Devotion in Puebla de los Ángeles. It includes a selection of villancicos based on the author’s transcriptions of the Cancionero de Gaspar Fernández (Archivo Histórico de la Arquidiócesis de Antequera Oaxaca, México; henceforth, CGF, AHAAO).
